So I was having lunch with a tremendously successful law firm that was itching to get their hands on a jet... In the course of the conversation, it became readily apparent to me that there was no need to purchase a jet, but rather a small piston aircraft, namely the Cirrus SR22T (T-turbo).
All their travel was confined within the state and even out to far west Texas, it was still no more than a two-hour plane ride in the Cirrus & after scuttling the talk of purchasing a jet our turboprop, we agreed that moving forward on a new Cirrus would be the best plan of action at this moment.
Here's what I didn't know going into the conversation; the senior partner had already put a $200,000 deposit down on a brand-new Cirrus to be delivered next 60 days & after a lengthy stay in Tennessee picking up the new aircraft, we made it back to Texas. We immediately began to fly to Cirrus.
The cost of the aircraft, when compared to the number of new cases that the firm was able to manage by utilizing the aircraft was minuscule in comparison when measured against the new revenue generated by allowing the firm's attorneys to travel at will around the state of Texas.
Within the first 6 months, the Cirrus had paid for itself...
You might be saying at this point, we need to travel across the United States and a piston aircraft will not work for us and you are right with that assertion and As Paul Harvey would say, the rest of the story is.
In just three short years the firm has added another two Cirrus pistons, plus two jets and a third jet on the way to accommodate the travel that is required now that the firm has scaled nationwide because of the investment of the first aircraft. The firm was able to scale nationwide and provide services to their many new clients in new markets.
I thought this case study was amazing and you would appreciate it because it proves the very point that an aircraft is not a wasted expense or just a luxury, but an asset to a growing company. It truly makes scaling your business doable on a whole new level...
